January and February are exciting times for the Literacy Volunteers as three new volunteers are ready to be trained. Two of them already have new students and there is a big (5-7 students) class, meeting on Sundays before services at St. Mary's, that need an additional teacher.
Volunteer of the Month
Rev. Elizabeth Bartley
For over a year, Reverend Elizabeth Bartley has been an integral member of the board and a valued tutor. Just ask her student with whom she reads religious tracts and from the Bible-- for this is the only interests he is eager to pursue for the most part.
Elizabeth and her family have been very effective in producing videos to show how relevant LVNC is to our community. Her husband, Nicholas is a videographer and he has loaned his services on two occasions. One was at the Chocolate Festival, where he captured people enjoying themselves and among them were their photogenic children.
Elizabeth is currently in the Master of Divinity program at UVA and is also a guide at Ashlawn. We appreciate how much she adds to our program.
The Board Members elected at the LVNC Annual Meeting
in June are Karen Winstedt, President; Frances Mitchell, Treasurer; and Elizabeth Bartley, Secretary. The Board Members for 2014-2015 are Elizabeth Bartley, Lisa Carter, Cindy Lachance, Frances Mitchell, Marilyn Mars, Joe Serkes and Karen Winstedt.
